Introduction

------------------------------
1.0.1 Intent of this document
------------------------------

This document is intended to aid people who are on the hunt for the new Weezer songs that have been played live over the summer of 2000, in preperation for the new album. It will list all of the new songs, the dates, whether they have been taped and whether or not mp3s of the song have been circulated. Songs will only be listed as being taped if someone can confirm that they have a recording with the song on it. However, from what I've heard, the vast majority of these shows have been taped by somebody, so it's a pretty safe bet that recordings of all of these songs exist somewhere.

1.0.2 Credits
--------------

This document was written by myself, Nathan Scott. However, it would never have been completed without the significant contributions of Neil Lewis (Blueguy) and David J. McKay. These guys were invaluable with providing set list and tour date information, and probably did way more acutal research than I did. I just put all the info together in this text file.

Additional Contributors: Anuj Behal - Info on the 7/19 Las Vegas show. Ranko Yamamoto - Corrections, and info on the 8/10 Tokyo show. Jack Jamieson - Info on the 8/31 Toronto show. "Michael" - Info on the 9/02 Detroit show. Evan LeVine - Info on Philly 8/29, D.C. 8/28, and N.J. 8/24. "Jrube76" - Info on the 7/17 San Diego show. "forgotaboutthugh", "Devin", "Prepstar" -Corrections and additions to lyrics.

2.0 Song List
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the listing of all known "new" Weezer songs played on the 2000 summer tour that we may be able to expect to hear studio recordings of at some point. First is a simple listing of the song titles, and afterward there is a section with details on when and where the songs were played and whether or not they have been recorded. Note that this list does not include the songs played at the Rivers Cuomo solo shows from 1998, as all reports indicate that those songs were scrapped and will not see further release. (note: well, we all know now only hashpipe was recorded in the studio at this point, in the future other non-recorded songs may be added to the faq - blueguy)

2.1 Song Details
--------------------

This is the meat of the document. Details are seperated into three sections: Played, Recordings, MP3s. Played: Lists cities and dates that the song has been confirmed to having been played. Dates surrounded by question marks (?-XXX-?) are dates where it is unsure whether the song was played. Question marks in place of cities indicate that the location is unknown.(please note:this is not a defintive list of all the songs played in the summer). Recordings: Lists all dates confirmed to have bootleg recordings. MP3s: Lists the dates of the shows that have been encoded into MP3 format. 3.0 Lyrics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: These lyrics are the efforts of myself and other fans to decipher what Rivers has been singing, often with only a bootleg to listen to. These are virtually guaranteed to be at least somewhat inaccurate. Whenever a lyric is utterly indecipherable, *'s are put in its place. Some lines may contain alternate wording, these will be contained within brackets, with a question mark following. Any lyrics within brackets that do not have a question mark should be considered background vocals (such as in My Brain).

----------------
3.0.1 Dope Nose
----------------
Dead, on my head
Wasting time on my own
Sleep, rescue me
Take me back to my home
(CHORUS)
For the times that you wanna go and Bust lines real slow
I'll appear, slap you on the face and Enjoy the show
This dope nose (knows?)
Trees, swing so good
On a vine, piece of land Phat, or big hair
Who could beat up your man?
[CHORUS]
[SOLO]
[CHORUSX2]

----------------
3.0.2 Ev'ry Nite
----------------

Every night,
When i go out to the clubs
Run away is the only way that I run
Stand there oh so still
I must be on some pills
Cause no one wants to see that I'm alive
Every night,
When I go out to the bars
People think i just came down from mars
Stand there oh so still
I must be on some pills
Cause no one wants to see that I'm alive
Now, Now
Every night,
When I go out crusin for some chicks
I drop a line
but nothing seems to stick
???shoes…
i sing the white boy blues
???other
Now, now
I don't see anything,
this is why I sing
to get these stupid feelings off my chest
Now, now.

----------------
3.0.3 Hash Pipe
----------------

(the lyrics featured here will differ from the album version of hashpipe, and im sure you can get those these elsewhere)

I can't help the feeling that I'm out of my mind
These thoughts come to get me but *** behind.
************************** trick.
Down on santa monica where tricks are for kids.
(CHORUS)
Oh, come on and kiss me
Oh, come on and kiss me
Come on and kiss me
You got your problems
I got my ass wipe
You got your big cheese
I got my hash pipe

I can't help a fucking thing,
I'm out of control
I'm no natural toker but I want you to
********************** favorite treat
oh man, **********************
[CHORUS]
[SOLO]
Oh, come on and kick me
Oh, come on and kick me
I got your remedy
You got your problems
I got my ass wipe
You got your big cheese
I got my hash pipe

--------------
3.0.4 Mad Kow
---------------

I'm watching
And waiting
I'm disintegrating
I know that You'd hear me
If you could come near me
(CHORUS)
But no one
Can save me now
I'm lost
Just like a cow
Madness burning inside my brain
My brain
I'm falling
To pieces
I'm breaking my leases
I know that
You'd hear me
If you could come near me
[CHORUS]
[SOLO]
[CHORUSX2]

-------------------
3.0.5 Modern Dukes
-------------------

Every time that I turn around I just hear the same old thing
Beg to try and just bring me back
To the place I couldn't keep
(CHORUS)
I'm an asshole
Storm the castle
Burn the bridges
Down to the ground
Take no prisoners
We're just visitors
We don't care about anything
That's the way these modern dukes should play It's every man here for himself
Every time that I turn around I just hear the same old crap
Trucks are trying to grease my
So that they can get laid back
[CHORUS]
[SOLO]
[CHORUSX2]

-------------------------------------
3.0.6 My Brain (Is Workin' Overtime)
-------------------------------------

My brain is workin' overtime
I need something to easy my mind
Cause as my thoughts go manic
I really start to panic
There's no place to hide behind I'm freakin' and hallucinating
Goin' last when I should wait
My parents think I'm lazy but damn, I'm goin' crazy
I can't help my mental state
(CHORUS)
You're all alone (he's trippin')
can't keep up (mental slippin')
take me brain out of my way
I work it to a frenzied clip
I bite the corners of my lip
I'm losing my apetite
My pants don't even fit right
Take away the night-glo bib
Give me something for my hair
Fresher pair of underwear
Cause if was hung over
My young friend would reach over
I just grip it, I don't care
[CHORUS]
[SOLO]
I tell the world to fuck itself
Cause who decides what's sick or health?
And the people I see
That's making lots of benji's
Make me want to do myself
Start a brand new fashion trend
Closer off the deeper end ****
***** ******* ****
you'll fit right in.
[CHORUSX2]

-------------
3.0.7 O-Girl
-------------

Oh girl, you look so sad
Burned out, and I've gone mad
Hell firing up the place
Tears on your face
Freaked out and scared to move
Don't wanna have to prove
That you're among the sane
Falling away
(CHORUS)
Oh girl, I thought you were cool
Until you tried not to get hurt
But now, I see in your eyes
The pain, that can be just lies
You're like me
Oh girl, you're trembling
Blank stare resembling
That you're among the sane (alt: That you're A.O.K.)
Please go away
[CHORUS]
[SOLO]
Oh girl, you look so sad
Burned out, and I've gone mad
Hell firing up the place
Tears on your face
Freaked out and scared to move
Don't wanna have to prove
That you're among the sane
Falling away

3.0.8 On The Edge

(don't poke the devil in the eye?)

(????????)

unknown at this point.

----------------------
3.0.9 Peace And Quiet
----------------------

Can I get some peace and quiet here?
I just want to drink an ice cold beer
Without feeling any kind of fear
Of what you're gonna say
Nestled in my hay
Waiting for someone to trip and fall
Fall
Can I get someone to pay my rent?
Turkey tidbits are just heaven sent
When you're living in an (Alto?) tent
With no sign of hope
Drinking shots of Skol
Waiting for someone to trip and fall
Fall
CHORUS)
Turn the beat up and down
(Turn the beat up and down)
Mesmerized to the sound
(Mesmerized to sound)
Make nobody believe who you are
Who you are
Can I get someone to pay my rent?
Turkey tidbits are just heaven sent
When you're living in an (Alto?) tent
With no sign of hope
Drinking shots of Skol
Waiting for someone to trip and fall
Fall

3.0.10 Preacher's Son

---------------------

I can't help it girl
I'm a preacher's son
I must live for peace
Until the day is done
(PRE-CHORUS)
But I will never let you go
Once I have got you in my hold
I'm gonna mold you into something that I'd like
I can't change my ways
I'm a puppets fool
If you need a fix
Then I'll be your tool
[PRE-CHORUS]
(CHORUS)
Always take me back
Falling off the track
Always I'm on fire
To be
With you
Tonight
To make your body come
I can't be someone
That you wish I was
Just a tag-along
After you because
[PRE-CHORUS]
[CHORUS]
[SOLO]
I can't be someone
That you wish I was
Just a tag-along
After you because
[PRE-CHORUS]
[CHORUS]
I can't help it girl

3.0.11 Slob
----------------

Leave me alone
I won't pick up the phone
And I won't listen to messages
Sent by someone who calls up and says
(CHORUS)
I don't like how you're living my life
Get yourself a wife
Get yourself a job
You're living a dream
Don't you be a slob
Slob, slob
Leave me again
Don't hang out in my den
Waiting for little clues to appear
That I drank some of Grandaddy's beer
[CHORUS]

3.0.12 Superstar
----------------

(Note: CONFIRMED by WFO [www.weezer.net/wfo/index.htm])

There used to be a better kind of rock and rollin' superstar
They'd strut around and do their thing all I know how to do is sing
(CHORUS)
And I don't do that so well
I never summon things from hell
I'm just a regular white guy who's afraid to rock
so hard I'd break my guard
and give myself away
There used to be a better brand of frontman personality

3.0.13 Too Late To Try
----------------------

(Note: CONFIRMED by WFO [www.weezer.net/wfo/index.htm])

I don't want to die
Even though I have to I just want to live a long, long time
And I see the gang to which I belong
Time to sing out our happy song
Wouldn't it be a cruel joke
If it's too late to try?
Why?
I don't wanna grow
Even if it's good growth
I just wanna stay just like this
And I see the comfortable place to rest
Time to get this shit off my chest
Wouldn't it be a cruel joke
If it's too late to try?
Why?

3.0.14 Your Sister (The Sister Song)
------------------------------------

Leaves, and pain, and nauseating pills
Lies, and nails, and nauseating bills
(CHORUS)
Why am I so hung up on your sister?
Why am I so hung up on your mom?
I thought that I would never even miss her
I thought that I would never use the bong
And I never cry like that
And I never swear like that
And I never lose my mind
Leaves, and pain, and dragon colored tears
Still remain and cover up in years
[CHORUS]
[SOLO]

4.0 Conclusions
-----------------------------------

----------------------
4.1 Help finding MP3s
----------------------

As most everyone knows, the best place to find MP3s these days is Napster. However, Napster is notorious for inaccuracy when it comes to songs and their titles. Napster simply allows you to download mp3s from any of its users, and there is nothing to stop them from putting up mislabeled or incomplete songs. Here are some tips for finding the songs you are looking for: -If you are searching for no song in particular, searching for "new" will display most of the new songs. Otherwise, it is best to search for the title of the song you are looking for. -Mislabeled songs: Just because a song is labeled as Weezer does not make it so. Many songs have been incorrectly credited to Weezer, such as a cover of "Mrs. Robinson" (actually by the Lemonheads) and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" (by Tom Petty). Generally, if the song title is not in this file, it is not one of the new songs. And if the song is not in one of any widely available Weezer discographies, it is not by Weezer at all. NOTE: There are many songs circulating labeled as "My Best Friend" or "My Best Friend's Song", similar to one of the titles of the new songs that hasn't been played yet. This track is actually "Mykel and Carli" a Blue Album era B-side. -Finding different versions: As seen in this document, there are several songs that have more than one performance encoded to mp3. You can try searching for the date in the title, but because many Napster users rename their files the date is often lost. Your best bet is to list the songs by track length and use the lengths provided here to differentiate between the different versions. And if anyone finds mp3s of any songs not listed as having mp3s encoded of them, or different versions than what's listed here, please do not hesitate to let me know of them or (even better) inform me of where to get them.

4.2 Beeswax (Ha ha)
--------------------

Well. With the last version of this FAQ, I made a variety of predictions regarding what the new album was going to sound like. They were pretty much all wrong. Of all of the songs above, the only one that is even getting a studio treatment is Hash Pipe. Which means that the various bootlegs out there are likely the only chance any of us will get of hearing these songs. This makes it even more important for everyone to circulate these tapes as much as possible, and share mp3s whenever we can. This is especially important for the songs currently without recordings or info. I'm going to tempt fate a second time, and offer a second prediction for the new album. This time I'm going to keep things much more general. I think that the next album will be a throwback to the Blue album, both in style and content. With Ric Ocasek producing again, the sound will most likely be cleaner than Pinkerton, and judging by the lyrical content of the summer songs, Rivers has gone back to lighter, more whimsical songs. No more roughly produced concept albums for Weezer, at least for the time being.

4.3 Final thoughts

-------------------

That's about it, for now. I just realized that, despite the fact that this is called a FAQ, there aren't any questions in it. I hope that it was informative and useful to anybody who got suckered into reading it. My thanks, and please remember to contribute anything you might possibly be able to. I'd also like to send out a big thanks to blueguy, who's done a lot more legwork than I have in gathering this info than I have. This document would be a lot less comprehensive, or not exist at all, without his efforts.
